TheraVibe vs Turbosonic Comparison Chart

Customers often ask about the difference between TheraVibe and the TurboSonic. This comparison table was compiled based on a detailed knowledge of TurboSonic technology acquired through the sale and support of these machines.

TurboSonic have three models design for professional use. The latest generation of machines, the X7, has been selected for the purpose of this comparison.  Although TheraVibe far surpasses the X7 in features and durability, the X7 is the closest match of the TurboSonic range.

TheraVibe and the TurboSonic both use linear motors to drive the vibration plate, and hence provide a very similar subjective experience in terms of the type of the vibration. The major distinguishing features of TheraVibe are:

  • TheraVibe is manufactured and supported in the USA.
  • TheraVibe adjusts for the user’s weight and monitors the plate to ensure a consistent ride.
  • TheraVibe’s plate is a few inches off the ground.
  • TheraVibe can run off any wall outlet, or off an extension cord.

Two separate ranges; one below 25Hz and above. Changing frequency from 25Hz to 26Hz requires an interruption of operation (stop and restart on higher range).

TheraVibe can be moved by one person using the built-in wheels. Slide pads on the bottom allow easy positioning on most surfaces (wood, tile, carpet). Only one height adjuster needs to be trimmed to balance TheraVibe.

User weight compensation

TheraVibe uses a patent pending mechanism that automatically calibrates to the user's weight to ensure an identical ride from the lightest to heaviest person.

No compensation for users' weight. The plate is supported by springs that compress more for a heavier person, resulting in diminished vibration capacity.

Motion control system

TheraVibe measures the actual movement of the plate over a thousand times per second and dynamically adjusts the power to the motor to control the force of vibration and movement of the plate.

Provides the same power to the motor regardless of actual movement of the plate.

Because of this, the machine will fault and shut down if the user steps off the plate during operation. This problem severely limits use in a dynamic exercise environment where is frequent movement on and off the plate.

Adjustment of vibration force

TheraVibe allows the user to control the actual force of the vibration, regardless of their weight. Furthermore, TheraVibe dynamically compensates for change in frequency in order to maintain the same subjective level of force applied to the body.

TheraVibe also allows the user to adjust the force during preset programs.

Provides a qualitative "volume" control that simply adjusts power to the motor without accounting for the weight on the plate.

Force cannot be adjusted during preset programs. (Force can only be adjusted on the "Manual" setting).

Software upgrades

Easy upgrades (via USB Thumb Drive).

Energy efficiency

High. Uses super efficient (more than 97%), high performance switching amplifier.

Low. Uses inappropriate audio technology amplifier. Results in high heat levels.

Design life

TheraVibe uses patent-pending zero-maintenance design. There are no parts to wear out and no lubrication required (even after years of use). TheraVibe is designed and built for continuous commercial use where the highest level of durability and dependability is paramount.

Some TurboSonic dealers have had return rates as high as 20% due to failures in the field mostly due to the following:
1) Power sensitivity: Machine cannot run on a power cord or share a power point with other devices.
2) Blows fuses in response to small power disturbances. (Machines ship with spare fuses in anticipation of this problem).
3) Incorrect bearings are used to guide the plate, which will lead to early failure.
4) Design uses inappropriate motor driver, resulting in excessive heating and therefore reduced reliability.


TheraVibe continuously monitors 14 independent physical parameters and performs continuous internal software monitoring to ensure safe operation of the equipment.

TurboSonic monitors neither the motion of the plate nor the internal health of the system.

Mains power sensitivity

Uses high quality switch-mode power supply unit with high immunity to voltage fluctuation on the mains. Runs without issue on a long extension lead.

Many units blow fuses until other measures are taken (isolating any "noise" on the power line or installing a "line conditioning" surge protector).

Magnetic card reader

TheraVibe has an optional magnetic card reader.  The card reader controls device access and allows the use of credit cards or stored value cards. Cards can also be personalised to limit the available preset programs (per user) as well as force setting on each preset.
